Joe was born outside Detroit, Michigan, but has lived in Austin, Texas for the past 16 years. At an early age Joe knew he wanted to do comedy from the smiles it brought to people's faces. Although new to the stand-up comedy scene, Joe feels like he's been on that stage his whole life and felt a welcoming presence when he stepped up to the challenge.

Joe won a National Karaoke Talent Search sponsored by Schick Shaving in 1999, and after redeeming the prize of a Bahamas rendezvous, he returned home and started his own company, called Karaoke Joe. In the 2 years following the endeavor he hosted more than 500 events all over Texas which simultaneously instilling a strong sense of stage presence and mingling skills which built his platform to stand upon confidently.

A natural progression of getting involved in film followed, which to date includes 7 shorts, 1 feature, and a national television commercial. Joe's great Grandfather, Frank Hursley, was the creator of General Hospital, which for he cites as the source of his creative genes. Joe says that since following his special pursuit of happiness the universe has definitely met him more than half way by means of bringing special people, both in and out the biz, into his life.
